Content Scope, Accepted Works & Exclusions

US Global Connect and Jade Lotus Literary Agency operate within a defined content scope. We work only with material that is commercially viable, non-political, and free of content prohibited or restricted in the author’s home country.
What We Accept
Literary Fiction
Novels and short story collections with literary merit and cross-cultural resonance. Works rooted in Asian place, history, mythology, and daily life — grounded and specific.
Narrative Nonfiction and Memoir
Personal narratives and memoir grounded in lived experience. Works that illuminate individual human stories within larger historical, cultural, or social contexts. We look for voice, specificity, and emotional honesty.
Speculative Fiction
Fantasy, science fiction, and speculative works drawing on Asian mythology, cosmology, and philosophical tradition. Works that engage seriously with ideas while remaining accessible to genre readers.
Business and Professional Nonfiction (Western authors only — East-West Literary Exchange initiative)
For our East-West initiative: business, leadership, technology, and personal development titles with broad professional applicability, written for a general professional readership.
What We Do Not Accept
- Political works: Fiction or nonfiction with explicit political advocacy or content designed to influence political opinion
- Documentary and investigative journalism: Works whose primary purpose is to expose wrongdoing or document controversial events in ways that may conflict with regulatory requirements in the author’s home country
- Works with prior censorship or publication bans: We do not represent works prohibited or refused publication by regulatory authorities
- Content likely to cause regulatory obstacles: Topics routinely restricted in Asian publishing markets, including certain historical events, religious controversy, or explicit criticism of governing institutions
- Previously published in English: We do not represent works that have already appeared in English translation in any form
- Works without clear rights: All represented works must have clean, unencumbered world English rights held by the author
Why These Restrictions Exist
USGC and JLLA operate across markets with different regulatory environments. We do not make political or moral judgments about this — we work within the legal and institutional realities of the markets we operate in.
Our compliance model requires that represented works have either prior publication approval in their home country (demonstrated by an ISBN or equivalent institutional imprimatur) or are being published for the first time outside the home country with the author’s full legal authority to grant world English rights.
